Is Traditional Reading and Writing Enough?

During my dissertation work, I found a quote from Reinking that said if teachers and researchers are not attentive to new literacies, they will quickly become irrelevant.
Here is a piece that considers the challenges of traditional reading and writing in the 21st century. It caught my eye after our discussion on Monday.

Hello out there! My name is Marva and this is my blog! I'm a professor at Angelo State University. I am honored to be the director of the Pearl of the Concho Writing Project. This blog is one I'm creating for one of our teacher writing camps. I hope our teachers learn a lot and have fun. More than learning content, I hope they will learn the attitude and demeanor of good writing teachers.

I am originally from Abilene, but spent most of my adult life in Austin,Texas. I have two graduate degrees from the University of Texas at Austin, but my heart belongs to Texas Tech, my undergraduate alma mater. I'm a hardcore Texas Tech football fan. I love going to the gym and doing Les Mills classes. I also enjoy binge-watching tv shows on Netflix and Amazon Prime. I just started the Starz series, Outlander yesterday.

I taught primary grades in Austin for 18 years. I loved it, but I have my dream job now teaching teachers literacy education. Just imagine: all the fun of teaching without the discipline problems.
